ArkeoGIS’ users can choose in their personal project characteristics among 4 categories in 4 different languages. Administrators and categories working group’s members can access (through the list of chronologies) an online characteristics editor. At any time, they can add and edit the characteristics composing a category on ArkeoGIS’ platform.

The following categories are available for the platform’s users to import their database or build their queries : Real-Estate, Furniture, Production and Landscape. All of these categories are further detailed on the ArkeoGIS’ online manual. There already is a work in progress on the Media category.

The “+” sign on the top right of the table allows the administrators to create a category thanks to the tools of the Caraceditor interface.
The available categories are presented on a table. Each column allows to organize the table according to its title.
Initially, the categories are presented in the table in the same order than in the query interface. The titles and contents of the columns are the following:
Order: The order in which the categories are organized on the query interface.
Name/Description: The name in orange is a link to this category editor (caraceditor). In the description, the subject of the category is clarified.
Languages: The initials of the languages in which the chronology is available for users. The category is published which means that users can choose it in their project. A category can only be published if it’s completed and written in two of the four languages available (English, French,, German and Spanish,).
Date of creation: Date of the first record in one language.
At the bottom right of the table are proposed several tools to handle it: number of the page displayed, number of lines per page, number of lines displayed on overall.
The information displayed on this screenshot is the one available on the ArkeoGIS’ app on the 1st of January 2017.
The language’s name and flag visible on the top right of the table allow the user to change it during the edition of the chronology.
The menu on the left allows to edit and access the additional operations to define a category. Those fields must also be translated in at least two languages (including English) for the category to be tested on ArkeoGIS. A full translation in all four languages is mandatory for the category to be published on ArkeoGIS.
Name: No maximum number of characters.
Description: The subject(s) of the category.
Order: The order in which the category is organized on the user’s query interface.
Members of the editing group: The members of the eponymous group can edit and update the category.
Download the CSV: The authors can download a CSV export of the category in each of the available languages.
Save: The authors must save the information after the input to validate it.
Back to the list: To leave the edition interface and go back to the list of categories.

Delete: To delete the category, a double validation is requested.
Definition of the category’s characteristics:
- The architecture of the categories is based on a parent/children relationship (cf :ArkeoGIS v.1, v.2 and v.3).
- The maximal amount of levels for each characteristic and sub-characteristic is four.
- There is no number limit for the level 1 characteristics or sub-characteristics. The same rule applies to the level 2 and the following.
- The author must name and choose an order for each characteristic and sub-characteristic he creates.
- If a parent is deleted, all of his line is deleted too.
