Import

FieldsDescription
GEONAME_IDThis field replaces the municipality’s code that was used in the previous ArkeoGIS’ version; but the geoname ID is not the postal code or even the municipality code. This ID can be found at the following URL address : geonames.org.
If the SITE_SOURCE_ID field is identical in at least two lines, ArkeoGIS won’t automatically replicate the GEONAME_ID anymore due to data integrity concerns during the upload. Each line of your data must contain location’s information such as a GEONAME ID or LONGITUDE and LATITUDE.
LONGITUDE
LATITUDE
If the SITE_SOURCE_ID field is identical in at least two lines, ArkeoGIS won’t automatically replicate the LONGITUDE and the LATITUDE anymore due to data integrity concerns during the upload. Each line of your data must contain location’s information such as LONGITUDE and LATITUDE or a GEONAME ID.
OCCUPATIONSingle occupation
ArkeoGIS defines the occupation of a single site during only one period (STARTING_PERIOD and ENDING_PERIOD) as a single occupation. Each line referring to the site’s characterisation (real-estate, furniture, production and landscape) must include the unique site ID (SITE_SOURCE_ID) in the source database.

Continuous occupation
ArkeoGIS defines the occupation of a single site during different but continuous periods (without discontinuation) as a continuous occupation. Each line referring to the site’s characterisation (real-estate, furniture, production and landscape) must include the unique site ID (SITE_SOURCE_ID) in the source database.

Multiple occupations
ArkeoGIS defines the occupation of a single site during different and discontinuous periods (multiphase sites) as totally different sites. Each registered period must therefore repeat all the mandatory information. This is necessary.

Query

Question / Answer
"I must choose which database to include in my query. How can I access their description to decide which one is the most relevant for my research?"

All the databases (whether they are inventories or thematic databases) are under the responsibility of a researcher or an administrator. This user must write a presentation of its database that is available, thanks to the directory, for every registered user. This description is available in two languages: the database’s original language and another one among the usual ArkeoGIS languages (FR, EN, ES or DE).
"My query results usually display sites from the same database. How can I know who is responsible for this database?"

All the databases (whether they are inventories or thematic databases) are under the responsibility of a researcher or an administrator. In order to facilitate relations between researchers, ArkeoGIS allows registered users to use the directory to know who is responsible for which database and to contact them.
"When I save a query, is it the query or its result which is saved? What will happen if one of the databases of the query is edited?"

When you save a query, the following elements are saved: research area, period, databases and characterisations. If one of the databases is edited, the result of the query could be modified. The update of a database is made by its author, either to correct it or to add a piece of information. The result of the query will always be the most updated possible.
"Is the last version of ArkeoGIS still online ?"

Yes, the TGIR HUMA-NUM also hosts the last version for a few more weeks after the launching of the fourth version on 6 December 2016 at the following URL address:
http://v3.arkeogis.org/
Your old log-in and password are still effective and you can easily retrieve your V.3 data from there.

Map

Question / Answer
"Why can I not display all databases?"
Your project's preferences are set to specified default (chronology or regional settings --> map) ArkeoGIS will delete all databases that are not meeting the pre-settings. --> delete settings: --> project preferences --> description of the project --> delete chronological settings and map settings --> select all databases available/of interest --> save the project --> select criteria of interest by defining research area and chronology from the map (query) --> display the map with all databases.
